Puerto Vallarta airport traffic fell in September: what travelers should watch
Preliminary GAP figures show a 10.4% annual decline. A quieter month is not a forecast for Vallarta’s housing market.

The new figures
Airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico reported on October 6 that Puerto Vallarta passenger traffic declined 10.4% in September 2026 compared with September 2025. Its release describes the numbers as preliminary. The comparison measures airport passengers, not the number of people staying in town, hotel occupancy or home purchases.
Capacity and weather are part of the context
GAP linked the broader declines across its network to lower airline seat capacity, especially on domestic services, and said late-month weather associated with Hurricane Polo partly affected Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos operations. The operator also identified decreases on Vallarta’s Tijuana, Monterrey, San Francisco and Phoenix routes. These are the operator’s explanations, not an independent assessment of every cause.
What it means for a trip or a move
If you are arranging a viewing trip, check the actual flight schedule before reserving accommodation. For a longer stay, compare year-round connections rather than assuming a seasonal route operates every month. One month of passenger data cannot establish a trend in property prices or rental yields; those questions need separate, local evidence.
